Hennessy Manhattan

The Manhattan is one of those classic cocktails that was a base for many variations. One of the more tasty variations is the French Manhattan. The recipe might look a bit odd at first, but you really need to give it a try. I have made this drink before with Remy Martin Cognac, this time I’m going for a special bottling of Hennessy. 

Hennessy Manhattan

Ingredients
45 ml Hennessy Cognac Limited Edition Felipe Pantone
45 ml Cinzano Sweet vermouth
10 ml Cointreau (if you want more cognac flavors try Cointreau Noir or Grand Marnier)
1 dash of Angostura Orange bitters

Method
Stir all ingredients together in a mixing glass with lots of ice. Strain in a prechilled coupe. Garnish with a sweet amarena cherry.

Xmas Gifts Parade 2020 : Hennessy Cognac

Saint Nicolas is back on his boat and on his way to Spain… that's our cue to start the annual Christmas series on Double Strainger. Because it’s the first year we switched to English, we had to change the name and slightly adapt the concept. Starting today we’ll share lots of tasty gift ideas under the new name “Xmas Gifts Parade”. And we selected a real beauty to start: Hennessy Cognac. 

Each year Hennessy invites an artist to decorate a bottle for the Christmas holidays. This year, the celebrated artist Faith XLVII explores the alchemy of the artistic process in a unique global art collaboration for the Hennessy Very Special Limited Edition. 

For the 10th annual Hennessy Very Special Limited Edition, the Maison Hennessy is proud to announce its collaboration with the street-turned-studio artist Faith XLVII.

In extending its platform to committed, visionary talents who strive to affect positive change on a community level, Hennessy reinforces its commitment to supporting emerging artists.

As the guest artist for the 10th annual Hennessy Very Special Limited Edition, Faith XLVII is the first female voice to join the Limited Editions series, a formidable artistic lineage that features internationally acclaimed talents such as Felipe Pantone, Vhils, JonOne, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Futura and Kaws.

With this artistic inspired cognac I mixed up a slightly adapted version of the classic Sazerac. Artists and Absinthe seem to be a good match, or not ? 

The result was absolutely delicious, I liked it so much that I actually made it again the next day 😉 

Hennessy Sazerac

Ingredients
4 cl Hennessy Cognac Very Special Limited Edition
2 cl Bulleit Rye whiskey
3 dashes Peychauds bitters
10 ml simple syrup
Absinthe (for the rinse)

Method
Add a splash of Absinthe to your tumbler and swirl it around. Don’t discard it, this stuff is too good to throw away 😉 
Add the rest of the ingredients to a large mixing glass with lots of ice. Stir for 20 seconds and strain in the tumbler. Add a big block of ice and garnish with lemon.

Old Fashioned Week : Pantone Old Fashioned

 

Producenten van gerijpte spirits proberen hun klanten voortdurend te verrassen met speciale bottelingen, rijpingen of exceptionele vaten die om één of andere reden boven de rest uitstijgen. Maar het kan ook anders. Af en toe ontdek je wel eens een limited edition waarbij het niet zozeer gaat om de inhoud, maar om de fles zelf.

Felipe Pantone is een Spaans-Argentijnse artiest die bekend staat om zijn verwijzingen naar de jaren 80 en 90. Denk aan Fame en Flashdance. Na zijn studies werd hij bekend als graffiti-artiest Pantone. De invloeden van de graffiti cultuur kan je vandaag nog steeds duidelijk zien in zijn werk. Zijn werken kan je vandaag bewonderen in het Mesa Contemporary Arts Center, het Long Beach Museum of Art (VS) en het Palais de Tokyo (Parijs). In ons land exposeerde hij o.a. in het MIMA in Brussel en op het Motif Festival in Hasselt.

Momenteel heeft Hennessy een ‘Very Special Limited Edition’ in de betere drankenhandel liggen met een fles ontworpen door Felipe Pantone. Het ontwerp is gebaseerd op het originele kustwerk W-3 Dimensional Three Stars.

Uiteraard werd voor deze fles een bijzondere cognac geselecteerd uit de kelders. Deze botteling heeft een intens en fruitig karakter, samen met aangename smaaknoten van het eiken vat. In de mond geroosterde amandelen en frisse tonen van druiven.

Pantone Old Fashioned

Ingrediënten
5 cl Hennessy Cognac Limited Edition
2 cl Clément Creole Shrubb
4 druppels Absinthe bitters

Bereiding
Alles samenvoegen in een mengglas met veel ijs. Goed roeren gedurende een 15tal seconden. Strainen in een elegant glas op voet.
